Trial of Father for Abusing His Children

In Odessa, a trial has begun against a 27-year-old man accused of systematically abusing his children – an infant and a toddler.

It is reported that during one of the incidents, the father inflicted bodily harm of varying severity on the children. He faces imprisonment for his actions.

This was reported by the National Police of the Odessa region.

According to law enforcement, the incident occurred in October 2024. They established that for two months, the father regularly struck his daughter whenever she cried, trying to "calm" her in this cruel manner.

When the child's health deteriorated, her 24-year-old mother called for an ambulance. The woman admitted that she "was afraid to oppose her husband".

With head and body injuries, the girl was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the regional children's clinical hospital.

"This couple had not previously come to the attention of the police or child services. In addition to the daughter, they have a two-year-old son, who, according to preliminary information, was also abused by the father. The boy is being examined by doctors; he has a closed fracture of the femur," the police reported.

A forensic examination revealed that the children suffered bodily injuries of varying severity. Specifically, the boy was diagnosed with a closed fracture of the femur, abrasions, and bruises, while his sister had multiple bruises, closed rib fractures, lung and brain contusions, leading to swelling and coma.

The children were removed from the family and are currently in a state-run children's facility.

The 27-year-old man has been charged under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (deliberate infliction of serious bodily harm to a child).

Investigators have also opened another case under part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code regarding the infliction of moderate bodily harm to the boy.

The suspect has been placed in custody without the right to bail.

The indictment against the man has been sent to court. He remains in custody, facing up to eight years in prison for his actions.

Furthermore, law enforcement has separated the materials related to the mother under Article 166 of the Criminal Code (grossly negligent failure to fulfill parental duties). The sanction for this article provides for imprisonment of up to five years.

Earlier, we reported on a case in Prykarpattia where a 41-year-old woman was tried for throwing her newborn child into a well.
