Odesa Karate Athletes Shine at European Championship
Odesa athletes excelled at the European Karate Championship, winning five medals.
In Odesa, on Heroes of Defense Street, a distressing incident occurred: an unknown man attacked a woman in the entrance of a residential building with a knife, stole her gold necklace, and fled. The police responded swiftly and managed to apprehend the assailant within hours.
On the morning of April 15, a 63-year-old woman was returning home when an unfamiliar man followed her into the entrance. He cornered her, held a knife to her neck, and took her jewelry.
The police arrived promptly at the scene, deployed canine units, and identified the assailant in less than a day. It turned out to be a 33-year-old man with a criminal record, currently homeless. He exchanged the stolen necklace for drugs. Authorities are continuing their investigation to locate the jewelry.
"The perpetrator has been detained and placed in a temporary holding facility. He has been charged under part 4 of article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed during martial law. The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison with property confiscation. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa," the statement reads.
