A tragic incident unfolded in the Odesa region as a one-year-old boy died after being hospitalized with multiple injuries. His mother has been detained on suspicion of abuse.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Odesa region.

The day before, the child was brought to the hospital in a critical condition by his 26-year-old mother. Medical staff diagnosed him with a concussion and old fractures of the shoulder and elbow.

The mother explained her son's condition by saying he "fell off the bed". Unfortunately, the child did not survive.

"During the investigation, police uncovered that the woman had lied and inflicted bodily harm on the child while he was crying," the law enforcement officials added.

The woman was detained and charged under Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for causing serious bodily harm. Police noted that she faces a "significant prison term".

The suspect has been remanded in custody.

As part of the investigation, a series of examinations have been appointed, including a forensic medical examination to determine the exact cause of the child's death.

It is worth mentioning that in Ternopil region, a woman was sentenced for intentionally stabbing her three-year-old son in the eye, leading to the child losing sight in one eye.
