The perpetrator approached the victim under the pretense of wanting to talk, only to snatch valuable jewelry at the opportune moment. This individual has a long history of convictions, having spent over 11 years in prison. He now faces up to 10 years behind bars.
A 33-year-old man reported to the police that he had been robbed in the city center. Officers responded swiftly to the call and arrested the offender, who was hiding in the entrance of a residential building.
According to Irina Yablonska, the deputy head of the investigative department of Police Department No. 1 of the Odessa District Police Department No. 2, the criminal noticed a gold chain with a cross around the neck of an unfamiliar city resident, approached him, initiated a conversation, and at the right moment, suddenly tore off the jewelry and fled.
The total value of the stolen property was 35,000 hryvnias, but the offender was unable to make use of it. He refused to provide explanations regarding his illegal actions.
The arrested individual had previous convictions for theft, robbery, and attempted murder, accumulating over 11 years in correctional facilities.
“We have informed him of the suspicion of openly stealing someone else's property, that is, robbery committed repeatedly during martial law. According to Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.
