Former Official Charged with Corruption in Odessa

The Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office has submitted an indictment against a former official from one of the district administrations of the Odessa City Council. The official is accused of receiving illegal benefits (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

During the investigation, it was revealed that this man, while temporarily performing the duties of the head of the district administration, offered an entrepreneur the issuance of permits for four trading points in exchange for 100,000 UAH. He also promised to assist in signing contracts for using these trading objects. In addition to the initial amount, the official intended to receive a monthly fee of 1,000 UAH for each point for smooth business operations. In June of this year, law enforcement officers caught the district representative “in the act” in his office while receiving the illegal benefit. He has since been dismissed from his position. The operation was conducted by prosecutors in collaboration with investigators from the Odessa Regional Police Department under the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a lawful manner by a court verdict.
