Tragedy on the Dniester: Fishermen Drown

A tragic incident took place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Dniester Lagoon near the village of Mykolaivka in the Odesa region: fishermen drowned. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
According to officials from the regional State Emergency Service, a report was received about a capsized boat and the discovery of two bodies in the reeds.
Rescue teams, in collaboration with law enforcement, retrieved the bodies of two men from the water. The search for a third person is ongoing, including with the help of drones.
Today, November 21, the situation was addressed by the regional police.
According to law enforcement, the dispatcher of the boat station informed them about the event that occurred on November 20.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three elderly men had come to the lagoon for fishing and had rented a house for a few days. On the morning of their departure, while rowing back to the dock, the fishermen stopped communicating with the dispatcher, and later station workers found their boat and the bodies of two fishermen nearby.
The search for the third man continues.
Police also reported that the incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, marked as an “accident”.
The bodies of the men will be sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
