At the age of 90, retired Lieutenant General Mykola Petrovych Leifura passed away. His life was a remarkable testament to devotion to his homeland, and in recent years, he played an active role in supporting veterans in Odessa.
Mykola Petrovych chose the honorable profession of defending his country at a young age, becoming a career military officer. Throughout his service, he commanded a tank platoon, a company, a battalion, a regiment, and a mechanized division. He concluded his career as the Deputy Commander of the Odessa Military District.
He was awarded numerous honors, including orders for service to the homeland of the III and II degrees, as well as orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky of the III and II degrees.
In his final years, Mykola Petrovych led the city council of war veterans, served as the deputy head of the regional veterans' organization, and was a member of the Council of Veterans of Ukraine.
With Mykola Leifura departs an entire era, but his important mission of supporting veterans takes on new significance and will be continued by contemporaries.
The Mayor of Odessa, the Odessa City Council, and its executive bodies express deep condolences to the family and friends of Mykola Petrovych.
