Young Figure Skaters from Odesa Shine at International Competitions
Odesa's figure skaters Tetiana Bielodanova and Ivan Kachur achieved success at international competitions in Riga.
This morning, a charity run named "Home — where we are" took place in Taras Shevchenko Park in Odessa. The event was held in honor of World Refugee Day, celebrated on June 20. It was the first event of its kind since the onset of the war, and participants included both children and adults.
According to the organizers, over a hundred people attended, including local residents, representatives of NGOs, charity organizations, displaced persons, and members of the Afghan community.
Registration began at 8:00 AM, and the run commenced after a moment of silence was observed for those who lost their lives in the war. The distance covered was 2.2 kilometers.
One participant, Tetiana, a displaced person from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson region, explained her participation by stating that she simply could not miss an event focused on displaced individuals:
"Whenever I see announcements in displaced persons' groups about an event, I don’t even think twice — I just go. It’s a calling for me, something stirs inside, and I always join. Here, I see people who, like me, are displaced, and who else understands you if not them?"
Mirza Mohd Ahmad, a representative of the Afghan community, shared that he decided to take part in the run because he was once a refugee himself and now holds Ukrainian citizenship.
"We know what war is, what it means to leave your home, and we want to support all Ukrainians," he emphasized.
Anastasia Didyk, a representative of the NGO "April Tenth," stated that the goal of this event is to unite people and draw attention to the issue of forced displacement globally.
