Snakes in Odessa: Myths and Facts

Recently, there have been increasing instances of people encountering snakes in the city, on beaches, or near lagoons. Igor Bilyakov, the director of the Odessa Zoo, emphasizes that there are no venomous snakes in the area.

We have four species of snakes: the common and water snakes, as well as the Sarmatian and yellow-bellied rat snakes. However, there is no need to be afraid of these creatures, – says Igor Bilyakov.

Even though a yellow-bellied rat snake bit the zoo director, nothing serious happened. Igor Bilyakov urges people not to fear or harm snakes.

Leave it alone, it won’t do you any harm, – the zoo director emphasized. If anyone spots a snake in their car or home, they can contact Igor Bilyakov at 068 04 04 539. He promises to assist.
