Day of Remembrance for the Tragedy in Odesa
January 28, 2026, has been declared a day of remembrance for the victims of the tragedy in Odesa.
Events in the Odesa region were dedicated to the National Road Safety Week and International Day of Tolerance.
Police officers, along with educational safety inspectors, visited schools and discussed with students the importance of adhering to traffic rules, combating bullying, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Law enforcement emphasized to students the necessity of strict compliance with traffic regulations. They visually demonstrated to younger students how to cross the road safely, explaining what to watch for to avoid danger. The children also drew traffic lights and signs, which helped them better remember the rules. Wearing reflective vests, the officers showed how these make children more visible on the road.
During meetings dedicated to International Day of Tolerance, celebrated annually on November 16, police conducted interactive sessions for students focusing on respect for others, acceptance of individual differences, and building friendly relationships. Officers explained that tolerance is not just politeness but daily actions that help create a safe and friendly school atmosphere.
They also discussed bullying, its various forms, and why indifference to aggression is dangerous. Police stressed that supporting classmates, being willing to listen, and not leaving anyone in a difficult situation are the foundations of a safe and friendly environment. Children were reminded that in cases of bullying, they should immediately inform adults.
At the end of the meetings, children received sweet treats as well as reflective smiley faces and backpack charms, which will help make them more visible on the road and serve as a pleasant reminder of the knowledge and skills they gained.
