The Odesa National University named after I. Mechnikov, with the support of the «Donor Odesa» initiative, launched the campaign «160 blood donors for the 160th anniversary of ONU».

The organization of the event involved the administration and trade union committees of both staff and students at the university. Medical professionals from the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station facilitated the mobile donations.

The event was conducted in two phases, with the first phase concluding in spring. The second phase was dedicated to World Kindness Day in November. On November 13 and 14, ONU representatives donated blood at two locations: in the Kyiv district — at the Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology, and in the Primorsky district — at the Department of Health and Safety and Natural Education.

«The donation campaign continued even during the blackout. Despite power outages at one of the locations, we powered the necessary equipment with a generator. Each drop of blood we donate can save our defenders' lives, who risk everything to protect our freedom and independence,» noted the campaign initiator, Vadim Penov, an associate professor at the Department of Physiology, Health and Safety, and Natural Education, and head of the university's staff trade union.

Thanks to collective efforts, over 170 people donated blood at ONU. The initiative included not only students and staff but also their family members who wished to contribute to supporting Ukraine.

Moreover, students and faculty of ONU named after I. Mechnikov conducted significant outreach work, spreading awareness about the importance of blood donation on social media.
