Open Badminton Tournament in Odesa: Honoring Mykola Barabash

On November 10, 2024, the open badminton cup organized by the Odesa regional organization of the FST «Ukraine» took place at the Sports School No. 5.

The competition was dedicated to the memory of the distinguished Odesa sports figure, Mykola Barabash, a deserved worker of physical culture and sports in Ukraine.

This tournament was the second of its kind in Odesa and turned into a true sports celebration for young badminton enthusiasts.

A total of 22 participants competed in the event.

The tournament was held in the mixed category: a male and female pair.

The winners and prize-winners among juniors were:

1st place - Mykola Cherniyenk / Veronika Simova;

2nd place - Lev Talpa / Darya Popova;

3rd place - Mykola Tsvetus / Anastasia Savitska.

Among the boys, the places were distributed as follows:

1st place - Pavlo Vasilioglo / Darya Boris;

2nd place - Timofiy Glushin / Vladislava Kimlyk;

3rd place - Sergey Mukhin / Elena Morozova.

The athletes were trained by coaches Vladimir Bilous, Darya Sibiryakova, and Valery Karpo.

Mykola Martinovich Barabash is a prominent specialist in the field of physical culture and sports, responsible for training many athletes who proudly represent our country in both national and international competitions.

He was the vice president of the Badminton Federation of Ukraine, a member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, and led the Odesa regional organization of the physical culture and sports society «Ukraine» for 30 years.

His talent as an organizer has been recognized with awards from the European and World Badminton Federations.

A master of sports in archery and badminton, a deserved coach of Ukraine, and an international referee.
