Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, has announced new peace initiatives related to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

These initiatives include the declaration of a 'ceasefire' that will last from 00:00 May 8 to 00:00 May 11, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Putin also urged the Ukrainian side to 'follow these conditions'.

He added that 'in the event of violations of the ceasefire by Ukraine, the Russian military will take appropriate measures in response'.
