Targeted Attack on Energy Infrastructure: A New Threat to Ukraine

On the night of August 6, Russian forces launched a targeted strike against a compressor station operated by Ukraine's Gas Transmission System Operator in the Odesa region near the Romanian border.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.

According to the ministry, this facility was part of a route connecting Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian gas storage facilities via the Trans-Balkan Pipeline, which has already seen LNG supplies from the USA and test volumes of Azerbaijani gas.

Last night, the equipment facilitating these supplies was attacked by dozens of strike drones, the Ministry of Energy emphasized.

"The massive Russian drone strike on a key compressor station of the Trans-Balkan route indicates that Moscow will use all available means to destroy the energy independence of Europeans and alternative gas supply routes," stressed Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.

"If Russia is allowed to strike our energy infrastructure and gas routes with impunity, no infrastructure in Europe will be safe," she warned.
