Japan Strengthens Support for Ukraine's Energy Sector

During his visit to Ukraine, Japan's newly appointed Foreign Minister Mr. Takeshi Iwaya emphasized the continuation of support for Ukraine, announcing a new aid package aimed at the energy sector.

The Japanese government stands as one of the key partners of UNDP in Ukraine, consistently funding the procurement of essential equipment for the restoration of critical infrastructure.

Odessa has already received its first gas engine cogeneration unit with a capacity of 3.3 MW, which is currently being installed. The city is also expecting two more similar units soon, which will cover about one-third of the energy needs for the city's critical infrastructure related to water supply, heating, and sewage.

The Mayor of Odessa noted that, during the full-scale war and under shelling, the construction of the city's own energy system is actively underway.

«We are immensely grateful to Japan, our sister city Yokohama, which was the first to support us, as well as to the UNDP team and all other countries that are currently helping us build the foundation of our resilience together with the people of Odessa,» said Gennady Trukhanov.
