Odessa's Chimney Renovation: Key Insights

Today, on November 12, one of Odessa’s heating plants has temporarily ceased operations for six hours due to chimney renovation work.

Following the end of the last heating season, the company KP «TMO» ordered a comprehensive inspection of all chimneys. In June, a report indicated that one chimney required urgent repairs at «Northern-1».

Odessa’s Deputy Mayor Anna Pozdnyakova noted that similar work has not been conducted in the country given the chimney’s height (120 meters). A crane with a lifting capacity of 600 tons, weighing 970 tons, was hired for the work.

There are few such cranes in Ukraine, only a handful, and they are all engaged in restoration projects for energy facilities after attacks.

«According to the schedule, the crane was supposed to be on site at KP «TMO» back in August, but due to reasons beyond our control, the timeline was significantly delayed — the equipment was performing other critical tasks. Additionally, this level and scale of work require highly qualified specialists, and their availability has also proven to be a challenge. We are working within the constraints that we cannot influence,» said Anna Pozdnyakova.

KP «TMO» apologizes for the temporary inconveniences and emphasizes that it is doing everything possible to ensure a stable and reliable heating supply to the homes of Odessa residents throughout the heating season.
