Transport Adjustments for the Independence Day Cycling Race
On August 24, 2024, a cycling race will take place in Odessa. Learn about the transport changes during this event.
Every autumn and spring, cases of burning dry leaves, grass, and branches are reported in our city.
The city administration once again reminds: burning plant waste is strictly prohibited in Ukraine and can lead to administrative fines, and in some cases, criminal liability. It harms public health, the environment, and poses a threat to life.
It is also prohibited to dispose of leaves and cut branches in trash containers or leave them next to them.
There is a common myth that this practice improves crop yields. In reality, this is not the case.
Firstly, the microflora involved in crucial biological processes dies off. It can take 5–6 years for soil fertility to recover.
Secondly, harmful substances that threaten the respiratory system are released into the environment during combustion.
Thirdly, burning grass does NOT warm the soil, DOES NOT enrich it with ash, and DOES NOT promote the growth of new grass.
Moreover, a small fire can escalate into a large-scale blaze, causing destruction and increasing the workload for emergency services.
Instead, composting leaves is a more civilized approach to managing organic waste and an economical way to obtain excellent fertilizer.
