The Dangers of Online Games Among Children: A Guide for Parents

A new risky trend has emerged among children on social media – the game "Red Doors, Yellow Doors", also known as "Doors of the Mind". In this game, students attempt to induce a trance-like state in each other.

This poses threats to both physical and psychological health, warns experts from the National Social Service of Ukraine.

They explained that during the game, participants try to bring one another into a trance state through relaxation and visualization, which can lead to imagining imaginary rooms.

Experts emphasize that such activities can harm children's physical and mental well-being. Similar games can disrupt circulation, cause spasms, headaches, and dizziness.

Moreover, these practices can increase intracranial pressure and, if congenital conditions are present, may lead to stroke.

The National Service experts noted that "Red Doors, Yellow Doors" can trigger anxiety and disorientation in children, sometimes leading to panic attacks and the development of psychosis.

Possible consequences also include nightmares and reality distortion.

Furthermore, dangerous trends may carry social risks for children:

  • withdrawal;
  • irritability;
  • nervousness;
  • engaging in dangerous actions or crimes.

"Be aware! The aggressor country uses game mechanisms to recruit children for real crimes and participation in sabotage – arson, planting explosives, damaging infrastructure," the social service emphasized.

What can parents do if their children engage in dangerous activities?

Parents are advised to build trusting relationships with their children to notice dangerous trends early on. The service recommends that adults first calmly talk to their child, ask about their interest in the game, and listen without judgment.

Then, it is important to explain the potential risks of such games, discussing their impact on the psyche and the possibility of involvement in criminal activities.

"Be attentive to emotional behavior. If your child becomes withdrawn, anxious, or experiences nightmares after the conversation, consult a psychologist," experts added.

This year, a dangerous challenge involving children making firecrackers at home circulated on social media. As a result of attempts to create a pyrotechnic product, three children were hospitalized in Lviv.
