Demolition of Damaged Buildings in Odesa

The demolition of residential buildings damaged by Russian drones has commenced in Odesa.

Today, July 17, during an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee, a decision was made to appoint the Department of Urban Development of the Odesa City Council as the contractor for urgent emergency measures.

Based on the technical assessment and the decision of the regional TEB and NS commission, partial demolition of five buildings is proposed: four near the railway station and one on Serednia Street. Two buildings on Novoselskoho Street (one partially) and a private house on Vynohradska Street have been deemed unsuitable for restoration.

“Their owners will be able to apply for compensation under the state program eRecovery and receive housing certificates for purchasing new homes,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov.

As for the five partially destroyed buildings, the city authorities will provide support for their restoration. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the total number of damaged objects in Odesa is 3,232, of which 1,295 are residential buildings.

“All our actions are not just a technical response to the consequences of enemy attacks, but a manifestation of responsibility towards people who have lost their homes. The city authorities continue to seek resources and partners both among state structures and international organizations to provide vital support. We are also mobilizing internal reserves: specialists, infrastructure, and volunteer initiatives to respond quickly and dignifiedly,” commented Hennadii Trukhanov.
