Landfill Controversy: Director Under Investigation

The director of a municipal waste management company is under investigation for negligence in handling operations. Last year, multiple instances of self-ignition occurred, leading to extensive fires that took firefighters over a week to extinguish. The official could face up to five years in prison.

Investigators found that the director failed to adhere to essential regulations for maintaining the landfill, which resulted in the buildup of biogas and hazardous conditions. He did not provide adequate security and oversight for the site.

This negligence resulted in repeated self-ignitions and widespread fires. Preliminary estimates indicate that the environmental damage exceeded 4.75 million UAH.

"The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence to charge the individual under two articles of the Criminal Code. This includes negligence and air pollution with harmful substances that pose a threat to human life and the environment," stated the police chief.

«The accused faces up to five years imprisonment and a ban on holding certain positions for three years. The pre-trial investigation is complete, and the indictment has been sent to court,» he added.
