In a small village in Odesa, a 50-year-old woman accidentally shot her 5-year-old granddaughter while trying to hide an air rifle. This was confirmed by the National Police of Ukraine.

On April 20, medical staff informed the police about the hospitalization of the girl due to an injury to her lower jaw. Investigators determined that the woman attempted to conceal the weapon but accidentally discharged it, injuring the child who was nearby.

The authorities recorded the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This pertains to causing serious or moderate bodily harm through negligence. The maximum penalty for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.

"As part of the investigation, a series of forensic examinations have been appointed, and all circumstances of the incident are being established. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office" - the statement said.
