Illegal Fireworks Display During Air Raid in Odesa

On January 31, in the Kyiv district of Odesa, two men committed crimes during a missile attack on the city.

The police investigative team discovered two boxes of fireworks containing 30 shots.

As part of the criminal proceedings, officers found that the crimes were committed by two unemployed residents of the Kyiv district, aged 48 and 37, with previous convictions for theft and fraud.

It was revealed that the younger man received an offer via messenger to launch fireworks in crowded places for a monetary reward. For this "service," he was promised 4000 hryvnias.

Agreeing to the terms, he sought out an acquaintance for assistance. They chose sports grounds near educational institutions on Lyustdorfskaya Road and Simy Glodan Street, where many people usually gather.

In the evening, during an air raid alert and explosions from enemy missiles, ignoring the prohibition on using pyrotechnics during martial law, the offenders brazenly activated one firework device, and a few minutes later – the next one, recorded a video as evidence, and fled.

The offenders sent a "report" to the client, from whom they expected payment. However, they did not receive the promised reward.

“We have gathered sufficient evidence that the individuals committed hooliganism, which is a gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society, accompanied by particular audacity, by a group of persons. This crime is classified under part 2, Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment for it is up to four years of imprisonment,” noted Oleg Zoshchuk, head of the investigative unit of police department No. 4 of the Odesa district police department No. 1.

The pre-trial investigation continues under the procedural leadership of the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa.
