Arrest of a Corruption Officer in Odesa Region

In the Odesa region, police and the Security Service of Ukraine arrested the deputy head of a local recruitment center for soliciting a bribe. The suspect promised to remove a conscript from the wanted list for a reward of $3,000. He has been charged and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Law enforcement officials determined that the head of the mobilization department, who is the deputy head of one of the units, was involved in corrupt activities. He demanded $3,000 from a conscript who violated military registration rules to be removed from the wanted list.

The first portion of the bribe was funneled through one of his subordinates.

After the conscript handed over the second part of the bribe amounting to $2,000, the authorities apprehended the suspect. The funds were seized as evidence.

After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators announced the suspect was charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for receiving improper benefits as a public official. This crime carries a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment, with the possibility of losing the right to hold certain positions for up to three years and confiscation of property.

The court has chosen to place the suspect in custody with the possibility of bail set at 1 million 211 thousand 200 UAH.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense for the Southern region.
