In Odessa, the Ukrainian Women’s Conference titled “The Women’s Movement Acts in All Women” is being held, marking the 140th anniversary of the women’s movement in Ukraine, alongside the Ukrainian Women’s Congress in Kyiv.
Odessa's mayor, Gennadiy Trukhanov, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the significant role of contemporary women in political, social, and military life. He also highlighted women's efforts in preserving the traditions and culture of our city and expressed gratitude for their contributions.
Sabin Frazer Gunesh, UN Women Ukraine representative, spoke about the support for the movement from the United Nations and the desire to expand cooperation:
“Women in Ukraine are free in their actions. Last year, women created every second new business in Ukraine. They are taking on incredible roles, filling in for men fighting at the front. Approximately 60,000 women are currently serving in the security and defense forces.”
The event brought together historians, activists, military personnel, representatives from international organizations, economists, and gender experts.
Key topics of the conference include the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odessa, the challenges and achievements of women in modern society, as well as leadership and rebuilding Ukraine post-war.
