Bristol Councilor's Visit to Odessa
Councilor Paul Hoggin from Bristol visited Odessa for the City Day celebrations and discussions on cooperation.
Recently, a delegation led by Ulrika Modeer, Secretary General of the Swedish Red Cross, visited Odesa as part of the collaboration with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
The Swedish representatives toured the Social and Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons and those affected by armed conflict.
Julia Haidary, Director of the Odesa Social Services Center, and Lyudmila Tsvitkova, head of the Social and Psychological Assistance Center, introduced the delegation to the Center's operations and shared the fruitful collaboration with the Odesa regional organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross. Thanks to this partnership, displaced persons receive ongoing social and psychological support while participating in joint events aimed at their adaptation in the new environment.
Upon concluding the visit, Ulrika Modeer emphasized the significance of building local capacity.
Additional Information
On December 15, 2023, following renovations funded by the city budget, the Social and Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons opened in Odesa. Since its launch, the Center has housed 266 individuals, including: 97 children, of whom 4 have disabilities, 38 elderly individuals, and 20 persons with disabilities.
During its operation, specialists at the Center provided: 178 legal consultations, 534 psychological consultations, 469 individual consultations for adults; social support was provided to 70 families/persons facing difficult life circumstances; and 65 group psychological activities were conducted for both children and adults.
