Engaging Workshop for High School Students with Crime Scene Experts

Recently, an engaging workshop took place at a local high school, where students had the opportunity to meet with crime scene experts from the Odessa District Police, including Captain Maxim Pasichny and Lieutenant Julia Sokerchak.

The specialists shared with the students various methods of collecting and preserving evidence, which are crucial for solving crimes. Special focus was given to the traces left by offenders at crime scenes. Following this, the experts showcased their equipment, demonstrating the correct techniques for fingerprinting.

«Each participant had the chance to experience being a crime scene investigator by fingerprinting a classmate. The students quickly realized that proper evidence collection is vital for solving crimes, and they performed their new professional skills diligently, as if they were truly working with a suspect», said Captain Maxim Pasichny.

Many students were interested in the personal experiences of police officers, leading to discussions about real cases that highlighted the importance of timely and effective work by forensic specialists in serious crime investigations. Additionally, law enforcement showcased a video illustrating the work of a forensic expert in an investigative group during high-profile cases, including inspections of missile strike sites.

Every year, graduating students face the challenge of choosing a profession, so at the end of the meeting, the officers discussed the educational opportunities in higher education institutions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine that prepare police officers and assist with their employment.

«I believe that such meetings help young people consciously choose their future profession, so I would be pleased if any of the students decide to join the National Police of Ukraine», concluded Lieutenant Julia Sokerchak.
