OpenAI is introducing a new simplified version of its deep research function in ChatGPT. This version is freely available to all users but comes with certain usage limits.

For paying subscribers, the simplified version will be automatically activated once the usage limit of the full Deep research is reached. "Responses will be shorter, yet they will maintain the same depth and quality you have come to expect," says OpenAI.

This tool operates on the o4-mini model — a streamlined version of the larger o4 model, allowing for reduced processing costs. Consequently, this enables OpenAI to increase usage limits.
