Celebrating a Remarkable Individual in Odesa

During the City Day celebrations in Odesa, the book «Roman Schwartzman. From Ghetto to Bundestag: The Voice of a Survivor» was presented, along with a formal reception honoring the author — the head of the Odesa Jewish Association, a former prisoner of ghettos and concentration camps, and a public figure dedicated to preserving historical memory.

By the decision of the Odesa City Council, Roman Schwartzman was granted the title of Honorary Citizen of the city.

The reception, personally organized by Roman Markovich, gathered esteemed guests, including members of a German delegation invited after Schwartzman's memorable speech in the Bundestag.

The Mayor of Odesa congratulated Roman Schwartzman, emphasizing his unique role in the city's life.

«This is a person whom Odesa truly takes pride in. A person who has endured the ghetto, loss, and persecution, yet has preserved dignity, strength of spirit, and memory. He lives and breathes the city, cares for it, represents Odesa on an international level, and conveys its voice to the world. His daily work, openness, and kindness are an example for all of us,» said Gennady Trukhanov.

During the meeting, many heartfelt and kind words were expressed by guests who conveyed gratitude, respect, and admiration for Roman Schwartzman and his endeavors. This day served as a reminder of the importance of memory, humanity, and unity.
