Support for Veterans in Odesa: New Initiatives
An overview of new initiatives for supporting veterans in Odesa, including rehabilitation programs and social integration.
On September 2nd, during the City Day celebrations, the mural «Towards the Dream» was inaugurated on the building of Odesa Lyceum No. 56.
The meaning of the mural can be interpreted in various ways: for some, it represents a happy childhood, for others, the Odesa sea and Vorontsov Lighthouse, while some might recall the words of Lina Kostenko: «No need for winged soil.» For others, it symbolizes the aspiration for a peaceful future. All these interpretations hold validity.
However, one cannot overlook the grim present - explosive items scattered along the shore. This serves as a reminder of the dangers that still linger.
That is why a QR code has been placed on the mural, directing viewers to educational materials on mine safety. Neglecting safety rules can cost lives, a sad statistic confirms this.
During the mural's unveiling, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Odesa Lyceum No. 56 and the NGO «Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine,» aimed at enhancing safety education for children and sharing experiences.
The celebration was adorned by performances from first graders and the vocal-choreographic studio «Arcadia».
«This school is truly one of our dreams coming to fruition. We remember what the school used to be and see how it is gradually transforming. We hope that every dream of ours comes true - brightly and beautifully. Even more so, we wish for our children to live under peaceful skies,» said Olena Buinevych, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council.
«Today marks our 10th anniversary opening. We are creating murals across Ukraine. Today’s unveiling is particularly significant as it occurs on a festive day. Happy City Day, Odesa!” stated Timur Pistruha, the head of the board of the NGO «Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine.»
The project was implemented by the NGO «Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine» and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
