On October 1, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Defenders of Ukraine to honor the defenders of our nation. 

On this day, we pay tribute to contemporary warriors and heroic figures who have fought for Ukraine throughout history. Today's defenders continue the great traditions of the Ukrainian military. 

We express our gratitude to all those who protect our freedom and remember those who gave their lives for our homeland.

In Odesa, the memory of the fallen was honored with the laying of flowers at the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine. 

Local authorities, law enforcement, veterans, clergy, and Odesa residents participated in the memorial event.

Defender Day was established in 2014 to honor the courage of those who defended Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. This day is associated with the feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, revered by Cossacks as a protector. Modern warriors uphold Cossack traditions and forge a new Ukrainian identity. War strengthens the Ukrainian nation, and the heroism of our defenders has earned the trust of the people. Today, the Ukrainian army is one of the most capable in the world, and it is our duty to support it.
