Military Brigades and Universities: A New Approach to National Education

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is initiating a new practice – mentorship of military brigades over higher education institutions. This decision is being implemented as part of the "Basics of National Resistance" program.

Alongside theoretical sessions, the program will include practical training and close collaboration between military units and universities.

Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi shared this information during a broadcast on Radio Kartia.

According to him, this initiative will help young people deepen their understanding of national resistance and foster values.

Under new legislation, basic military training will commence in universities on September 1, differing from traditional army training.

"When a person is mobilized for military service, they will undergo comprehensive training right before their integration into military units," the minister stated.

Collaboration is planned between military units permanently stationed in the regions where universities are located, as well as interregional cooperation.

"Not every brigade can work with universities at the required level. Ideology, value orientations, and a common direction of work are important here," emphasized Oksen Lisovyi.

Additionally, the material and technical base of military units is crucial: training grounds, weapons, and instructors with combat experience.

In the minister's opinion, such cooperation could establish a tradition where military units take care of one or several universities, strengthening ties and engaging youth in significant events.

"The military honors their fallen and wounded, and it is important to involve students in these processes, including commemoration," Lisovyi explained.

The idea of military mentorship over universities arose from traditions where universities take care of military units where their graduates or students serve.
