Preparation of Schools in Odesa for the New Academic Year

As the new academic year approaches, educational institutions in Odesa are engaged in intensive preparatory work.

The primary focus is on the safety of children: currently, 90 out of 120 schools have established shelters. Modernization efforts are ongoing.

A prominent example is School No. 62, where engineers successfully relocated a complex communications system, deepened the basement floor, and reinforced the foundation. Now, over 500 children can attend their school simultaneously.

The shelter will also be available for local residents.

At School No. 122, they are expanding the existing shelter, renovating the gym, and creating STEM laboratories, which indicate not only protection but also educational advancement and early specialization.

Both schools had previously suffered from shelling. Currently, educators and builders are fully restoring their operations.

“We are not just repairing walls; we are creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment where children want to grow and develop,” commented Odesa's Deputy Mayor Pavlo Vuhelman.

In total, nearly 325 million UAH has been allocated for repair work in the city's educational sector this year. Work is also underway at Lyceum No. 125 and the Mykhailivskyi, Gymnasiums No. 12 and No. 61.

Thanks to international partners, Kindergarten No. 14 is being restored, while Kindergarten No. 29 is already welcoming children.

“We are grateful to everyone involved — educators, builders, deputies, parents, and partners. Childhood is unique, and caring for it is the true meaning for Odesa,” said the Director of the Department of Education and Science, Olena Buynievych.
