From August 19 to 24, 2025, the 10th World Junior Swimming Championships took place in Otopeni, Romania.

More than 600 athletes from over 80 countries participated in the event.

Nikita Sheremet, a representative of Ukraine, competed as a pupil of the Odessa Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve «Dynamo».

In the semi-final heat for the 50m freestyle, the Odessa swimmer won, setting a national junior record for Ukraine and matching the junior world record at 21.75 seconds.

Nikita also triumphed in the final, becoming the world champion in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 21.99 seconds, outpacing competitors from Great Britain and Italy.

The athlete was trained by coaches Alla Timofeeva and Oleksandra Kurbanova.
