New Developments in Education: State Final Assessment for 9th Graders

In 2028, a full State Final Assessment is set to take place for 9th graders in two fields: language and literature, and mathematics. The comprehensive implementation of the 9th grade assessment is not possible until 2029.
This was announced by the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.
In the fall of 2026, Ukraine plans to test specific tools and procedures for the 9th grade state assessment in language and literature (state language) and mathematics.
Around 2000 10th graders from pilot schools that have tested the New Ukrainian School's educational materials will participate in this.
In 2027, the continuation of the 9th grade assessment pilot is planned.
"We will test refined tools and procedures for assessing student achievements in language and literature and mathematics, particularly using a special educational platform currently being developed by IT specialists," the UCEQA representatives explained.
Also, for 2027, a preliminary trial of assessment tools from other educational fields such as civic education, history, natural sciences, and foreign languages is planned.
By 2028, it is likely that the 9th grade assessment will be fully launched in the fields of language and literature (state language) and mathematics, while additional piloting of tools and procedures for other fields will continue.
Thus, comprehensive implementation of the 9th grade assessment as a cohesive system is not expected until 2029, according to UCEQA.
Reminder: Starting in 2027, 4th graders in Ukrainian schools will take the state final assessment in the form of external independent testing.
