Night Incident in Izmail: Fire on a Ship
A fire broke out on a civilian ship in Izmail following an attack. An operational headquarters is overseeing the situation.
The Ukrainian Cup in fencing took place from October 15 to 20, marking the first significant event of the 2025-2026 season for adults.
The tournament, held at the CSK ZSU sports complex in the capital, attracted 345 participants (153 women and 192 men).
The title of the Ukrainian Cup was claimed by Odesa fencer Alina Komashchuk (coaches – Oleksandr Vasyutin, Nikita Stolbunov). In the final, she defeated the 2023 champion Oleksandra Bondar from Mykolaiv. In the semifinals, Alina overcame the current Cup holder Daria Gontsova from Cherkasy with a score of 15:9. This marks her second victory in the Ukrainian Cup.
In the men's competition, Andriy Yahodka (coach – Oleksandr Vasyutin) earned a silver medal. He reached the final after winning 10 consecutive matches (6 in the pool, 4 in the main draw), but could not overcome Kyiv’s Oleksiy Statsenko in the decisive match, losing 5:15. Previously, Andriy had won 8 of the last 10 Ukrainian Cups.
