New Exhibition on German Heritage in Ukraine

A new exhibition titled "German Heritage in Ukraine: History and Modernity" is taking place at the UNESCO center in Regensburg.

This exhibition, brought from Odessa, features unique historical materials that tell the story of German settlers in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their contributions to the city's development.

The exhibition is divided into three main parts: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical section was prepared by the renowned Odessa historian Alexander Surilov, while the artistic section showcases works by Odessa artist Tatyana Romanenko.

The exhibition also highlights the cooperation between the cities and Regensburg's support for Odessa during the war.

This event was organized with the assistance of the Culture Department of Odessa and the Department of Cultural Heritage of Regensburg.

Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Malz-Schwartzfischer opened the exhibition alongside historians, scholars, and local residents currently living in Germany.

Gennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude for the support of Odessa during these challenging times.

"We are approaching a thousand days of war, and that is a thousand days of our unwavering struggle and support from European countries, which Regensburg provides to Odessa," said Trukhanov.

The mayor noted that Odessa has become a home for many during the war, just as it was in the past when various peoples, including Ukrainians, Germans, Jews, Greeks, Armenians, and Poles, found refuge here. Each contributed to the culture of the city, creating its unique identity.

"Germany significantly influenced the agricultural development of the region, which in turn affected the port and other infrastructure. We value this contribution and continue to strengthen our relations in various fields," added the Odessa mayor.

Today, our ties with Regensburg remain strong, just as our faith in victory and the independence of Ukraine. We believe in a bright future and know that together we can overcome any difficulties.
