Winter Crop Sowing Status in Ukraine
Latest update on the status of winter crop sowing in Ukraine as of November 25, 2025.
The Odessa City Health Department has launched a new initiative called «Odessa Controls Healthy Weight».
The main goal of this initiative is to reduce the incidence of obesity among adults and children, prevent related diseases, and enhance the quality and duration of life for local residents.
«Combating excess weight is a significant focus that has long been prioritized in many countries. Less than half of Ukrainians have a normal weight, while most struggle with overweight. Weight control and mindful eating are key to health and longevity,» emphasized Levon Nikoghosyan, the department director.
As part of the program, over 350 family doctors and pediatricians, along with primary care nurses, will be trained on obesity, its treatment, and prevention.
Leading specialists from the Odessa National Medical University and the Odessa Region Family Medicine Association will be involved in the training.
The training will cover various topics: how to consult adult patients and children, the importance of proper nutrition, controlling eating habits, and physical activity. Screening studies will also be introduced to detect excess weight and related diseases.
The first session will take place on March 4, 2025, at the Primary Medical Care Center No. 4. The first group of 15 doctors and 15 nurses will undergo a two-day training course on obesity and motivational interviewing with patients.
«Obesity is not merely an aesthetic issue; it is a serious chronic disease. Initially, it may not present any symptoms, but over the years, it can lead to increased blood pressure, fatty liver disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular complications,» noted Valentina Velichko, director of the Children's Consultative Diagnostic Center.
Doctors offer simple tips to improve health:
1. Drink plain water when thirsty. Avoid sugary drinks between meals.
2. Aim to include at least half a kilogram of vegetables and fruits in your daily diet.
3. Dedicate at least an hour each day to physical activity, such as brisk walking or exercise.
