Scammers are increasingly using fake video clips in the Telegram messenger to extract money or spread phishing links.

How it works: The agency explained the methods employed by these criminals:

• They initially hack into accounts and download the user's video messages;
• Next, they edit a fake monologue where the hacked user supposedly asks for money;
• They send this counterfeit video to the user's friends and acquaintances.

To avoid falling victim to fraud, law enforcement advises verifying information when receiving such a suspicious video. Make sure to contact the person through another messenger or by phone. It's also advisable to enable two-factor authentication for added account security.
