Funding Boost for Urban Development in Ukraine

The European Investment Bank has allocated €46.1 million to Ukraine for four projects aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
The funds will be directed towards the reconstruction of water supply and wastewater systems, remediation of a landfill near Lviv, improving energy efficiency in public buildings, as well as purchasing public transport in Kiev, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Kamyanske, Dnipro, and Kremenchuk.
In particular, €13.3 million is allocated for two municipal infrastructure and public transport development programs. An additional €14.7 million is earmarked for another program aimed at improving urban transport. Furthermore, €4.8 million is designated for enhancing energy efficiency.
As of October, the EIB has provided Ukraine with over €168 million for these projects. The largest portion of the funding, totaling €121.1 million, has been allocated for the renewal of public transport fleets in Ukrainian cities.
Overall, the EIB's loan portfolio in Ukraine is one of the largest among international financial institutions, consisting of 27 projects worth €4.7 billion. This funding also supports the restoration of critical infrastructure, including roads, railways, and bridges.
As Deputy Finance Minister Olga Zyikova explained, this support is of 'extremely high importance for Ukraine, especially in conditions where the government is directing all internal resources to meet the needs of the security and defense sector.'
