Blood Donation Amidst War: New Challenges and Initiatives

During the ongoing war, the demand for blood donations for both civilians and military personnel continues to rise significantly due to the casualties from aggression.

This week, the city project «Donor Odessa» in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Odesa-Simferopol organized a collective blood donation drive. The event was blessed by Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoraduk, who is himself a proud blood donor.

“Blood donation is an expression of Christian compassion and unconditional love for our neighbors. We must assist those in need, especially those who shed blood to protect us,” said Bishop Stanislav.

The blood collection, conducted at the office of the Roman Catholic Church, was facilitated by a mobile team from the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station. Approximately 15 parishioners and church ministers participated, with each donation potentially saving up to three lives.

Previously, the «Donor Odessa» project welcomed the participation of the Jewish community «Chabad Shomrey Shabbos» with the support of Chief Rabbi Abraham Wolf.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the «Donor Odessa» project has effectively coordinated existing blood donors and engaged new ones. Over this period, more than 13,000 blood donations have been made, saving thousands of lives.

The «Donor Odessa» project also actively participates in charitable initiatives like the «Weeks of Good Deeds».
