New Aerial Threats: Guided Bombs in Ukraine

On the southern front of Ukraine, particularly in the Odesa region, the Russian army has introduced a new type of weapon - guided aerial bombs (GABs) with jet engines. These munitions are being used in isolated instances across various locations to assess their effectiveness and the response of Ukrainian defense forces. However, the threat to civilians remains manageable, as these bombs can be intercepted by air defense systems. This was reported by Yuriy Ihnat, the head of the communications department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to him, these GABs resemble cruise missiles but are significantly cheaper to produce. They have already started reaching Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Poltava regions, employing a tactic of single strikes to test the response of defense forces.

«This is the same bomb launched from a Su-34 aircraft; in terms of flight characteristics, it resembles a cruise missile, so it can be intercepted by air defense systems. Yesterday, the Air Command «South» confirmed the interception of two such guided bombs with extended range; the specific type will be determined by specialists. A third bomb was recorded falling in an open area without consequences», — the serviceman added.

The representative of the Air Force also urged the public not to panic. Currently, these munitions do not pose a critical threat, as they can be intercepted.

Ihnat also noted that Russia continues to enhance its weaponry, while Ukraine, along with its partners, is working on advancing its defensive technologies. It is crucial for civilians not to ignore air raid signals and seek shelter.
