Improving Accessibility for People with Disabilities in Odesa

Today, an important meeting took place in Odesa, gathering experts for the project «Barrier-Free Movement» of the Ministry of Community Development of Ukraine, local authorities, and members of the City Council for Accessibility. The meeting was led by the first deputy mayor Alexander Filatov.

As stated by the mayor Gennady Trukhanov, Odesa is one of 15 cities participating in the flagship project «Barrier-Free Movement» under the patronage of the First Lady Olena Zelenska.

As part of the project, funded by various budgets, an inclusive pedestrian route is planned in the Persivsky district connecting key social and infrastructure facilities with the «North-South» tram line.

This route will run from the intersection of Prince Volodymyr the Great Avenue and Kishinevskaya Street to the intersection with Ak. Zabolotny Street, and further to the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, including access to the CNAP on David Oistrakh Street.
This section will feature the installation of barrier-free environment elements such as pedestrian pathways, ramps, adapted public transport stops, parking spaces, and information systems to facilitate movement for people with disabilities.

Currently, work is being coordinated with a team of experts who are surveying the reconstruction sites.

Additionally, the working group, including experts from Kyiv, visited the Odesa coastline to observe the progress of the inclusive beach development and other social infrastructure projects.
