An analysis of Ukraine's international funding situation for 2026-2027 and the challenges ahead.
On Primorsky Boulevard in Odesa, near the Duke's monument, students from the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after Ushynsky and researchers from the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have completed another phase of archaeological studies.
Rector Andriy Krasnozhon announced on social media that the results of the seasonal expedition were very successful.
«The conclusion of archaeological work on Primorsky Boulevard is an important event,» - he noted.
Among the finds are archaeological artifacts of Genoese origin from the 14th century, discovered near the monument to Duke de Richelieu. These findings indicate that this area was once part of the Italian Ginestra, later becoming an Ottoman fortress. The remains of fortifications from that time were found near the funicular.
More details about the excavation results will be shared by Andriy Krasnozhon later.
Director of the Department of Culture of the Odesa City Council, Ivan Liptuga, commented that this is a significant event for the city and its history.
«This will become an important element of a UNESCO World Heritage site!», - Liptuga added.
In a comment, he also mentioned that the option of installing a glass dome over the excavation is being considered.
«We plan to cover the remains of the fortress with glass and outline the structure with tiles of a different color. If this idea is approved, we will also install a bronze plaque with information about the history of this place,» - emphasized Liptuga.
