Celebrating the Art of Gennadiy Harmider

On March 1, 2025, the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art hosted the grand opening of the exhibition «The Multifaceted Gennadiy Harmider».

Gennadiy Harmider is a prominent Ukrainian artist known for his diverse works in painting, graphics, and illustration. His oil paintings and etchings capture the beauty of urban landscapes, still lifes, and portraits that resonate with viewers.

«We take pride in Gennadiy Harmider's artistic legacy, which beautifully portrays Odessa and its history, as well as its sister cities, highlighting the international significance of his art», remarked the museum director.

During the opening, renowned artists, journalists, and art historians spoke about Harmider's contributions to Ukrainian art.

More than 100 of the artist's works, created over 50 years, were showcased.

Among them are etchings dedicated to Odessa, its history, and culture: «Odessa in the 19th Century», «Odessa and the French», and more.

A unique highlight of the exhibition is a map of the historical center of Odessa, created in the etching technique, consisting of nine parts.

The series «My Ukraine» captivates with its lyrical representation of nature and daily life across various regions of Ukraine.

Additionally, the series «10 Days on a Trimaran» reflects the exhilarating dialogue between humanity and the sea.

Harmider's paintings are less frequently exhibited, with the last major showcase taking place in 2005 for the artist's 60th anniversary.

This year, Gennadiy Harmider would have turned 80 on February 21. He left behind a vast creative legacy, with his works present in numerous museums across Ukraine.

The Odessa Museum is open daily, except for Wednesdays, from 12:00 to 17:00.
