The city of Odesa commemorates six decades of partnership with Yokohama.
This week in Odesa, Japanese culture days are being held to honor the anniversary of our cities' friendship.
Today, the I.Ya. Franko Central City Library became a venue for immersing visitors into the enchanting world of Japanese culture.
Creative children's groups and young artists from Odesa showcased Japan's rich traditions and cultural heritage.
The Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Mr. Masashi Nakagome, emphasized in his video greeting the importance of cultural collaboration in strengthening the ties between our nations.
The Yokohama city hall also contributed to the celebrations with a video presentation, allowing guests to learn more about our sister city.
“Odesa proudly counts Japan as a friend. Sixty years ago, we became sister cities with Yokohama. Our relationship exemplifies stable international friendship and cultural exchange, especially significant during the last three years of war in Ukraine,” said Ivan Liptuga, Director of the Department of International Cooperation.
Yokohama provides support at various levels: Odesa receives vital humanitarian aid, organizes youth exchanges in arts and sports, and together we are rebuilding a kindergarten after a hostile attack.
This is a story of true friendship that transcends borders, language barriers, and cultural differences.
The best expression of gratitude from Odesans is to engage with this beautiful culture, honor our partnership, and remember its history.
