The Inaugural Winter Invictus Games: Preparing for Vancouver 2025

In February 2025, Ukraine will participate for the first time in the Winter Invictus Games. On January 29, veteran Yevhen Kaus was introduced at the Barrier-Free Council, who will travel to Vancouver as part of the national team. 

Yevhen Kaus — a certified coach in yachting (adaptive yachting for veterans) with the «Federation of Maritime Multisports of Ukraine» in the Odesa region. 

During the full-scale war, Yevhen sustained a mine-explosive injury, resulting in the loss of both legs. At the Games in Vancouver, he will compete in three disciplines: curling, biathlon, and skeleton. 

The Ukrainian team from the Odesa region also includes:

- Oleksiy Vasylyev, soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veteran, injured in March 2023 during combat operations in Bakhmut, Donetsk region; 
- Illia Pylypenko, sailor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veteran, injured in September 2022 near Bilohirka, Kherson region due to a tank mine explosion; 
- Oleksiy Prytula, senior soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veteran, injured in September 2022 near Yampolivka, Donetsk region. 

The Invictus Games are the largest international event for veterans and service members who have been wounded, injured, or become ill while serving their duties. 

Participation in 2025 will mark the fifth time for our country. The Invictus Games in Vancouver-Whistler 2025 will be the first hybrid winter games in history. 

Veterans will compete in swimming, rowing on simulators, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby, including new winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, cross-country skiing, skeleton, and wheelchair curling.
