New Initiative to Engage Youth in Science

A new educational initiative is set to commence in the upcoming school year. Odessa's Mayor, Gennadiy Trukhanov, and the rector of ONU, Vyacheslav Truba, have signed a collaboration agreement. The initiative is led by the Department of Education and Science of the Odessa City Council. The primary goal of this collaboration is to enhance youth interest in natural sciences and engage promising students in these fields.

According to the agreement, schools will be able to enter into contracts with the university to recruit teachers of physics and other scientific disciplines. The collaboration will include preparatory training for middle school students (grades 7-9) as well as specialized education for high school students (grades 10-11). Research activities will also be organized for students demonstrating aptitude in related areas.

City officials noted that the Institute of Physics possesses the necessary resources — specialists and equipped laboratories — to provide quality education. Schools, meanwhile, face a shortage of qualified natural science teachers, particularly physicists, so this project will help address staffing challenges in educational institutions.
