An overview of new initiatives for supporting veterans in Odesa, including rehabilitation programs and social integration.
Under the guidance of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office, a local resident has been charged with intentionally destroying property by arson (part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect received an offer through a messaging app to set fire to administrative buildings in the region for monetary compensation. He was also promised unhindered exit abroad in case of 'danger.'
To achieve his goal, the man meticulously coordinated the targets of his criminal actions and the amount of agreed compensation. Following covert measures, he wore dark clothing and gloves, which significantly complicated his identification.
Subsequently, the suspect prepared necessary materials for committing crimes, including polymer bottles filled with gasoline, and arrived at the selected buildings. He poured fuel on the windows and walls, ignited them, and recorded his actions on video.
From October to December 2024, he set fire to several postal offices and administrative buildings of local government bodies, documenting his actions on video for reporting back to his client. He received the payment in his electronic wallet.
Law enforcement officers apprehended the criminal while he was carrying out another assignment—setting fire to the premises of the Pension Fund's department in the Ovidiopol district.
At the request of the prosecution, the suspect was remanded in custody.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Investigative Department of the Odesa Regional Police, with operational support from the Ukrainian National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until proven guilty in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
